Slovenian Info Day

Slovenia has a long history of involvement with the COST Programme, having joined in 1971 as part of Yugoslavia, before becoming an independent COST member in 1992. Since 2012 the number of participants from Slovenia taking part in COST Action networking activities, such as meetings, short-term scientific missions and training schools has considerably increased. Today, Slovenian researchers participate in 260 running COST Actions.

Talks during the day included an opening address by CSO Member Tea Glazar, an introduction on “Promoting and Spreading Research Excellence” from COST Director, Ronald de Bruin and a presentation byDr Primoz Pristovsek, Head of Science Operations for COST on how the COST Framework works, how to participate and how to prepare successful proposals.In addition, Dr Gabriella Endre, Hungarian Academy of Science presented “Strengthening Europe’s Science Base: perspectives of ERC”.

Participants also heard first hand experiences from Andrea Kutnar, Chair of COST Action, Understanding wood modification through an integrated scientific and environmental impact approach (ModWoodLife) and Michel Burnard, Vice Chair of Indoor living space improvement: Smart Habitat for the Elderly

The event ended by CNC Mojca Boc explaining the nomination procedures and the national participation.

COST Director, Ronald de Bruin said of the event, “This COST Info Day in Slovenia served to the Slovenian Research and innovation community that COST opens up opportunities for young researchers”.
