North Macedonia Info Day

26/11/2020

On Thursday 26 November, COST held an online Info Day aimed at encouraging researchers from North Macedonia to participate in COST activities by emphasising the many benefits of pan-European networking. A high-level meeting was separately held between Director of the COST Association, Ronald de Bruin and Minister Mila Carovska, from the Ministry of Education and Science, to discuss the role of the COST programme in the country’s long-term goals.

Minister Carovska stated “COST is in important asset for the North Macedonian research community. It is a building block in the development of our new strategy for research, as it provides researchers and scientists with the much-needed mobility to connect with peers in Europe and beyond.”

North Macedonia has been a Member of COST since 2002, with participation levels steadily increasing over recent years. Researchers from the country now participate in 71% of COST Actions compared to 31% in 2012. This increase demonstrates the value of the COST programme to the country’s research and development landscape and how involvement in COST activities is a successful pathway for individuals to further their careers and research networks. This is particularly positive in benefitting and growing the capabilities of research and innovation within the country, as it enables talented researchers to gain experience without having to relocate to new countries.
