Powered two-wheelers (PTW) such as mopeds and motorcycles, are over-represented in traffic fatalities for 18% of all European traffic fatalities. Even more disturbing is that PTW are the only mode of transport for which the annual European fatalities are consistently increasing. One of the most effective protection products for PTW riders is the motorcycle helmet.
Handbook "Cereal Variety Testing for Organic and Low Input Agriculture"
- Pages: 50
- Author(s): D. Donner, A. Osman
This handbook is the result of the comparison of variety testing systems in the participating countries. It contains a description of different methodologies used in variety testing, their potential advantages and disadvantages and experimental conditions under which they may be applied. Special emphasis is on assessment of diverse crops, e.g., variety mixtures, and specific considerations needed for organic variety trials compared to conventional trials are highlighted and discussed. Each chapter has a list of literature references for more detailed information.
Impact of Wind and Storm on City Life and Built Environment
- Author(s): J. P. A. J. Van Beeck

- ISBN/ISSN: 978-2-930389-11-0
Wind Engineering and Building Aerodynamics have developed in the past three decades as a modern interdisciplinary engineering science with aspects of meteorology, fluid mechanics and structural engineering. The COST Action C14 brings together the main European researchers and research Institutions working on these subjects. Its main objectives are: to evaluate and quantify wind effects in dense urban areas with a European wind climate, in terms of transport of gases and particles in the urban atmosphere, wind effects on people, buildings, other structures, and urban built environment; to improve the design tools available to engineers and urban planners to allow for such effects with a view to improving the quality of the urban environment and mitigating windstorm impacts and reducing wind induced failure.
