Research network fighting tinnitus in race for Frontiers Award

The competition is organised by open-access publisher Frontiers, a community-driven initiative enabling researchers to highlight their work, create debate around it and propose new, emerging topics in all scientific fields.

In search for a cure for tinnitus, Action TINNET has already published several articles showing the interdisciplinary nature of their work. For example, one recent article points out that focusing on genetics could lead to new therapeutic targets for new medicines. Tinnitus, or the perception of a phantom sound, affects 70 million Europeans.

A debilitating condition, it causes psychological distress and generally affects the quality of life. Researchers in the network believe tinnitus may be linked to other conditions like obesity, diabetes, thyroid disfunction or brain tumours.
