The COST Association welcomes Professor Salvatore Grimaldi, the new COST President

The Committee of Senior Officials has appointed Prof. Salvatore Grimaldi as the new President of the COST Association. Prof. Grimaldi starts his mandate on 18 July 2023 and will serve as President until 21 June 2025.

COST operates in an inclusive manner, capitalising on the diversity, exceptional talent, and extensive expertise found across Europe’s research population. It is a privilege for me to act as the COST President, and in this way contribute to the uniqueness of this programme, which is an essential building block of the European Research Area.”

Prof. Grimaldi holds a PhD in Hydrology for Engineering. He is currently a Full Professor in Hydrology at the University of Tuscia in Italy and also works as Adjunct Faculty at New York University’s Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering. He is the Director of MechHydroLab, an interdisciplinary laboratory of mechanical engineers, hydrologists, and water scientists that focuses on developing advanced experimental systems for environmental monitoring. Prof. Grimaldi was also elected in 2023 as President of the International Association of Hydrological Sciences (IAHS) for the period 2025-2029.

Prior to becoming the President of COST, Prof. Grimaldi served as a member of the COST Scientific Committee from 2021 to 2023 and as a COST Review Panel expert from 2015 to 2019.

The President of the COST Association is responsible for the work of the Committee of Senior Officials, which defines the COST programme’s strategy and drives all the Association’s activities. The President also guides the committee on the Association’s strategy and policy issues.
