COST Action MP0804 - Highly Ionised Pulse Plasma processes
This COST Action contributes to reducing green house gas emissions and enables European industry to stay competitive globally. It does so by helping SMEs create new market opportunities for innovative plasma technologies to become a truly European success story, similarly to Laser technology.
COST Action BM0607 on Targeted Radionuclide Therapy created a short film on the application of radiolabeled peptides for targeted therapy; 177Lu-DOTA-octreotate emits gamma and beta particle radiation, the peptide molecules bind somatostatin receptors on tumor cells and can be applied for both tumor imaging and radionuclide therapy.
Light as air: aerosols, a key player in the atmosphere
What role do aerosols play in mediating the impact of solar variability on climate ? Benjamin Laken, from the Astrophysical Institute of the Canarian Islands, discusses with us this question. This movie was produced by COST action TOSCA (Towards a more complete assessment of the impact of solar variability on climate), a multidisciplinary European network of scientists from 20 countries whose objective is to provide a better understanding of the hotly debated role of the Sun in climate change. Black Holes in a Violent Universe
COST Action MP0905 – The world’s first open and flexible network on black hole research – explains what Black Holes in a Violent Universe are!
COST was a proud supporter of ESOF 2012, Europe’s largest general science meeting.
Taking place in Dublin, Ireland, from 11 to 15 July, it aimed to showcase the latest advances in science and technology, and promote a dialogue on the role of science and technology in society and public policy.

The Importance of Social Science Research for Understanding Climate Change Induced Migration
In the context of today’s migration crisis, researchers involved in COST Action “Climate Change and Migration” presented their findings at a side event organized as part of the COP21 event in Paris. The event explored the importance of social science research for understanding climate change-induced migration. Having worked with international peers from social sciences, humanities, legal and policy studies, network member Dr Angela
Oels stressed there was “no simple link between climate change and migration”. The network argued that although climate change affects vulnerable populations, it is not the only factor causing migration. Challenging the concept of climate migration, network members highlighted the role of poverty and political crises leading to civil wars as two key factors making people vulnerable. The Action also took the opportunity to show how they created a space for interdisciplinary debate and a culture of trust among researchers who did not share much common ground prior to their collaboration.
